An emergency bunker surcharge (EBS) is a fuel charge a carrier imposes outside its scheduled BAF cycle, on spot business that carries no BAF or when fuel moves faster than a quarterly review can follow. CMA CGM’s BAF notice of 3 December 2018 made spot and short contracts subject to EBS.
