EU Port State Control Directive 2009/16/EC
Directive 2009/16/EC obliges EU Member States to run port State control in line with the Paris MoU; an amended Directive takes effect on 6 July 2027 in the EU.
The EU Port State Control Directive is Directive 2009/16/EC of 23 April 2009 on port State control (recast). It obliges EU Member States to inspect foreign ships in their ports, applying the targeting, inspection and detention regime shared with the Paris MoU , and it gives that regime binding legal force inside the EU.
