Garbage Record Book: Parts I and II under MARPOL Annex V
The MARPOL Annex V Garbage Record Book: Part I categories A to I, Part II cargo residues J and K, the 100 GT threshold since May 2024, entries and retention.
The Garbage Record Book is the MARPOL Annex V log of garbage discharges, deliveries to reception facilities and accidental losses. Since resolution MEPC.277(70) entered into force on 1 March 2018 it has two parts: Part I for Categories A to I, including fishing gear (H) and E-waste (I), and Part II for cargo residues on ships that carry solid bulk cargoes, Category J non-HME and Category K HME.
Resolution MEPC.360(79), in force 1 May 2024, extended the carriage requirement from ships of 400 GT to ships of 100 GT and above. The full article will cover the entry columns, the start and stop positions required for cargo-residue discharges under Reg 10.3.2, retention for two years with reception receipts under Reg 10.3.5, the pre-2018 lettering, and electronic record books. Cargo residues are covered in Annex V HME cargo residues, E-waste and hold-wash water .
