Gas ready notation
The class notations certifying that a ship is prepared for a later conversion to gas fuel, what each level actually commits the owner to, and where the gaps remain.
A gas ready notation certifies that a ship built to burn oil fuel has been designed and, to a stated degree, equipped for a later conversion to gas fuel. The notation is a graded thing rather than a single status, and the grade decides how much of the conversion has genuinely been bought in advance.
At the lowest level the notation confirms little more than that the structural provision and the space reservation exist and that the conversion has been studied. At the highest it covers the tank foundations, the piping penetrations, the electrical provision and the machinery already certified for dual-fuel operation. The difference between those levels is most of the conversion cost, which is why the notation string matters more than the phrase.
The full article will cover the notation levels of the major societies, what documentation each requires, the structural and system provisions in scope, the residual work at conversion, and the resale value argument that drives the specification. See LNG fuel system and class notations .
