GNSS Receivers on Ships

Satellite position receivers under SOLAS V/19.2.1.6: carriage on all ships, constellations, augmentation and GNSS interference at sea.

SOLAS regulation V/19.2.1.6 requires every ship to carry a global navigation satellite system receiver, or a terrestrial radionavigation receiver, suitable for use at all times throughout the intended voyage to establish and update the ship’s position automatically. Ships built before 1 July 2002 had to fit one by their first survey after that date.

The receiver feeds the ECDIS, the AIS, the radar and the VDR, so a degraded position propagates across the bridge. The full article will cover the constellations, augmentation systems, the IMO worldwide radionavigation system resolution and jamming and spoofing. See SOLAS Chapter V .
