Guide to Market Benchmarks
The BEISL methodology document behind every Baltic index: structure, route and vessel definitions, panellist guidance, change and cessation, version history.
The Guide to Market Benchmarks is the methodology document published by Baltic Exchange Information Services Ltd and is the governing text for every Baltic index. It carries the formula for each headline index and timecharter average, the full route definitions, the benchmark vessel descriptions, the publication times and reporting windows, the panellist obligations, and the benchmark change and cessation regime.
It is versioned and amended frequently, and it supersedes the benchmark statements of 2020 wherever the two disagree on composition. The full article will cover its structure, the change-control threshold requiring the written consent of at least 75 percent of respondents where a change imposes significant cost on panellists, the restatement policy, and how to read a version history against an open derivative position.
