High-Speed Craft Code (HSC Code)
The International Code of Safety for High-Speed Craft sets construction, equipment and operating rules; certified craft are treated as meeting SOLAS rules.
The International Code of Safety for High-Speed Craft (HSC Code) is the IMO code for passenger and cargo craft that meet its speed criterion. It is made mandatory through SOLAS chapter X , and a craft built and certified under it is treated as complying with the corresponding SOLAS requirements, including the chapter V carriage rules for navigational equipment.
That deeming is why the bridge navigational watch alarm system requirement in SOLAS V/19.2.2.3 does not bind a certified high-speed craft; the craft’s navigational equipment is set in chapter 13 of the Code instead. The full article will cover the 1994 and 2000 editions, the craft categories, the permit to operate, and the chapters on buoyancy, structure, fire safety, life-saving appliances, navigation and radio.
