IMDG Segregation Table 7.2.4 and Segregation Terms
IMDG table 7.2.4 sets segregation between dangerous goods classes with four terms, from away from to separated longitudinally, overridden by entry SG codes.
The IMDG segregation table is table 7.2.4 of the IMDG Code , which states the general segregation required between packages of different classes. It uses four numbered terms: 1 away from, 2 separated from, 3 separated by a complete compartment or hold from, and 4 separated longitudinally by an intervening complete compartment or hold from. X means no general segregation, subject to the individual entry.
The table is overridden where column 16b of the Dangerous Goods List gives an SG code for the entry. Under Amendment 42-24, for example, Division 4.1 must be away from Class 5.1 while Divisions 4.2 and 4.3 must be separated from it.
The full article will cover how each term translates into container positions on deck and under deck on a container ship, the segregation groups, and the rules for closed and open cargo transport units.
