The Institute War Clauses (Cargo) CL385, dated 1/1/09, are the London market’s war cover for goods, written alongside the Institute Cargo Clauses, which exclude war perils. Cover is waterborne: it attaches as the goods are loaded on the oversea vessel and ends on discharge at the final port or 15 days from midnight of the day the vessel arrives there, whichever is first (clause 5).
The full article will cover the insured perils, general average under clause 2, the increased value clause at clause 9, and the interaction with additional premiums for listed areas. The cargo insured value article covers how this topic affects the sum insured on a cargo policy.
