INTERCARGO

The International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners, representing bulk carrier owners on safety, quality and regulatory matters.

INTERCARGO, the International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners, represents the interests of bulk carrier owners and managers, with consultative status at the IMO. Its published work centres on bulk carrier safety, casualty analysis and the operational quality of the dry bulk fleet, including its long-running bulk carrier casualty report.

It is also the principal counterparty to commercial vetting platforms on behalf of dry bulk owners. On 16 October 2024 it published a statement of concern over RightShip’s decision to reduce the age limit for bulk carrier vetting inspections, objecting on procedural grounds that the decision had been taken without prior consultation with affected owners and managers. On 11 December 2024 it welcomed a revised timeline and the formalisation of an agreement for regular structured consultations.

Its Quality Panel, established in 2023, now holds quarterly meetings with RightShip and gave feedback on the RISQ 3.2 inspection questionnaire amendments before implementation. The full article will cover the association’s structure, its casualty and quality work, its IMO submissions and its engagement with the RightShip GHG Rating and vetting regimes.
