ISWG-GHG: IMO intersessional working group on GHG
The IMO Intersessional Working Group on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships (ISWG-GHG): its mandate, its sessions, and its work on the Net-Zero Framework.
The Intersessional Working Group on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships (ISWG-GHG) is the IMO working group that prepares greenhouse gas measures between sessions of the Marine Environment Protection Committee. It drafted much of the text that MEPC 83 approved in April 2025 as the IMO Net-Zero Framework. ISWG-GHG 22 met from 1 to 4 September 2026, reviewed proposals addressing concerns with the draft amendments, and deferred its lifecycle assessment item to ISWG-GHG 23, scheduled for 23 to 27 November 2026.
The full article will list the sessions and their outcomes, the relationship with the GESAMP lifecycle assessment working group, and the path from an ISWG-GHG report to a MEPC decision.
