MARPOL Annex I Reg 20: existing oil tankers

MARPOL Annex I Regulation 20 sets the double hull and phase-out rules for oil tankers delivered before 6 July 1996, carried over from former Regulation 13G.

MARPOL Annex I Regulation 20 carries the requirements for existing oil tankers that do not meet the double hull standard of Regulation 19 . It descends from Regulation 13G of the original Annex I, introduced by MEPC.52(32) on 6 March 1992 and accelerated by MEPC.95(46) on 27 April 2001 and MEPC.111(50) on 4 December 2003, and took its current number in the revised Annex I adopted by MEPC.117(52), in force from 1 January 2007.
