MARPOL Annex IV Regulation 12: Reception Facilities

MARPOL Annex IV Regulation 12 obliges Parties to provide adequate sewage reception facilities at ports and terminals, with a regional route for island States.

MARPOL Annex IV Regulation 12 obliges each Party that requires ships to comply with Regulation 11.1 to provide sewage reception facilities at its ports and terminals, adequate to meet the needs of the ships using them and without causing delay. Regulation 12.2 requires Parties to notify IMO of alleged inadequacies, and Regulation 12.1bis, added by MEPC.216(63) in force 1 August 2013, lets Small Island Developing States meet the duty through regional arrangements.
