National Action Plans on GHG Emissions from Ships

Voluntary National Action Plans on GHG emissions from ships under IMO resolution MEPC.367(79), and their place among the uses of the draft IMO Net-Zero Fund.

National Action Plans (NAPs) are voluntary plans in which an IMO Member State sets out how it will address GHG emissions from ships. Resolution MEPC.367(79), adopted on 16 December 2022 and revising MEPC.327(75), encourages Member States to develop and submit them, and its operative paragraph 2 lists possible contents (a) to (h), including fuel production and distribution and infrastructure for green shipping.

Draft regulation 41.1.2.4 of the IMO Net-Zero Framework lists support for NAPs, “including fleet renewal and upgrade”, among the purposes of the IMO Net-Zero Fund . The full article will cover the resolution’s contents, submitted plans and technical cooperation support.
