Onboard Monitoring Manual (OMM)

The OMM specifies the installation, operation, maintenance, servicing and calibration of every monitoring chain on a shipboard exhaust gas cleaning system.

The Onboard Monitoring Manual is required under section 8 of resolution MEPC.340(77) for every ship fitted with an exhaust gas cleaning system , under either approval scheme. It covers each EGCS with its identified combustion unit, and it specifies the installation, operation, maintenance, servicing and calibration of every monitoring instrument in the chain.

It matters more than its name suggests, because it is the document that fixes the calibration intervals and the drift handling for the analysers and the discharge water instruments. It also defines the short maintenance periods during which discharge water monitoring may be interrupted, subject to the prohibition on any maintenance or cleaning during an overboard discharge from temporary storage.

The full article will cover the section 8 requirements paragraph by paragraph, the relationship to the EGCS Technical Manual , the analyser requirements in section 6 and their reference to the NOx Technical Code 2008 , and what an auditor expects to find recorded against it.
