Port Said
The Mediterranean terminal of the Suez Canal, its container terminals at East Port Said, and the northern convoy assembly.
Port Said stands at the Mediterranean end of the Suez Canal and has done since construction began there on 25 April 1859. It is where northbound transits finish, where southbound convoys assemble, and where a ship crosses from the canal into the Mediterranean regulatory environment.
The modern port is two things at once: the canal northern terminal with its roadstead, pilot station and convoy anchorage, and a container transhipment hub at East Port Said on the eastern side of the entrance channel, which serves the Asia to Europe trade as a call rather than merely as a passing point.
The full article will cover the port layout and its approaches, the East Port Said container terminals and their throughput, the anchorages and the convoy assembly practice, bunkering and services, and the interaction between a port call and a canal transit.
