RightShip Inspection and Ship Questionnaire (RISQ)

RISQ is the RightShip inspection questionnaire for dry bulk and other non-tanker tonnage, structured after TMSA and SIRE 2.0.

The RightShip Inspection and Ship Questionnaire (RISQ) is the questionnaire RightShip inspectors work to when inspecting dry bulk and other non-tanker tonnage. It is published free on RightShip’s site, most parts carry a guide to inspection, and its scope covers statutory items together with recommended and desirable items referencing IMO, ISO, ILO, OCIMF and ICS material and industry codes of practice.

The questionnaire has been revised repeatedly. Version 2.0 applied to inspections after 30 September 2022 in a tablet-based format of roughly 230 questions. Version 3.0 applied to inspections after 30 June 2023 and was a substantial overhaul to more than 300 questions across sixteen chapters, restructured after TMSA and SIRE 2.0 and shifting emphasis from procedural review towards knowledge, competence and implementation. Versions 3.1 and 3.2 added clarifications and refinements, with INTERCARGO giving feedback on the 3.2 amendments before implementation.

The full article will cover the chapter structure, the version history and its effective dates, the age trigger that determines inspection eligibility, how an inspection outcome feeds the RightShip Safety Score , and the consultation history with owner associations.
