Shanghai Containerized Freight Index

The SCFI: fifteen spot routes from Shanghai, the 16 October 2009 basis at 1,000 points, the carrier and forwarder panel, and the TEU and FEU quoting split.

The Shanghai Containerized Freight Index is published weekly by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange, generally on Friday at 1500 Beijing time, covering fifteen spot export routes from Shanghai. It runs on a basis period of 16 October 2009 with a basis index of 1,000 points, and is quoted in US dollars per TEU except the United States east and west coast routes, which are quoted per forty foot container.

The assessment is a cost, insurance and freight, container yard to container yard spot rate including bunker, currency, peak season and terminal handling surcharges, drawn from a panel of 20 liner companies and 17 forwarders and NVOCCs. The full article will cover the route definitions, the weighting, the relationship with the CCFI, and how the index is used in index-linked liner contracts.
