Ship Account Statement: IMO GFI Registry, Draft Reg 37.5

The ship account statement is the annual record the IMO GFI Registry issues by 31 August under draft MARPOL Annex VI regulations 37.5 and 38.5 (MEPC/ES.2/2).

The ship account statement is the annual record of a ship’s account in the IMO GFI Registry under draft regulations 37.5 and 38.5 of MARPOL Annex VI Chapter 5 (MEPC/ES.2/2), issued by 31 August of the year after the reporting period. It shows the ship’s GFI compliance balance , any Tier 1 and Tier 2 deficits, the remedial units acquired, and the surplus units credited, transferred, banked or cancelled.

The Secretariat note to MEPC/ES.2/2 records that regulation 36 was reworded so that how a ship balances a deficit and how it uses its surplus units “have to be recorded in the ship account statement”. The statement precedes the Statement of Compliance , due by 30 September. The full article will cover its content, the Registry’s role and the draft’s status, which is not adopted.
