The Shipping Act of 1984, Public Law 98-237 of 20 March 1984, codified at 46 U.S.C. Subtitle IV, is the statute regulating ocean common carriers in US trades. It requires published tariffs of all rates and charges, with 30 days’ notice of increases under section 40501(e), and provides for complaints to the Federal Maritime Commission for reparations.
