Small Island Developing States in Shipping Regulation

Small island developing States (SIDS) in IMO decision-making, the UN-OHRLLS lists, and the SIDS provisions of the draft IMO Net-Zero Framework and its Fund.

Small island developing States (SIDS) are a UN category of island States with shared development constraints. UN-OHRLLS lists 39 SIDS that are UN Members; a wider list adds non-UN Members and associate members of regional commissions.

The draft IMO Net-Zero Framework names SIDS in regulation 40.5 on the composition of the Fund’s Governing Board and in regulation 41.1.2 on the just transition. The full article will cover the lists, SIDS positions in IMO GHG negotiations and their maritime connectivity.
