Suez Canal Economic Zone
The Egyptian industrial and port zone along the canal, its terminals at each end, and what a transiting operator meets there.
The Suez Canal Economic Zone, SCZone, is the Egyptian industrial and logistics zone developed along the canal corridor and at its two ends. It groups the container and industrial terminals at Port Said East on the Mediterranean and at Ain Sokhna on the Gulf of Suez, together with the inland industrial areas between them.
For a transiting operator the zone matters in two ways: as a place to call rather than merely pass, and as the vehicle through which Egypt tries to capture value from traffic that would otherwise transit and leave nothing behind.
The full article will cover the zone governance and incentives, the terminals it contains and their throughput, the bunkering and repair services available, and how a call inside the zone interacts with a canal transit.
