Temperature-Controlled Dangerous Goods under IMDG 7.3.7
IMDG 7.3.7 governs temperature-controlled carriage of self-reactive substances, organic peroxides and polymerizing substances, and its control temperatures.
Temperature-controlled dangerous goods are the self-reactive substances, organic peroxides and polymerizing substances that the IMDG Code requires to be carried below a control temperature. Section 7.3.7 of the IMDG Code derives the control and emergency temperatures from the SADT or SAPT in table 7.3.7.2.6.
Under Amendment 42-24 (MSC.556(108)) the section also sets the equipment: insulation with a heat transfer coefficient of not more than 0.4 W/(m2 K) for a cargo transport unit, two independent temperature-measuring devices read every 4 to 6 hours (7.3.7.4.3), an alarm where the control temperature is below +25 °C (7.3.7.4.4), and operating instructions and loss-of-control procedures on board (7.3.7.3.4).
The full article will cover the refrigeration methods, the reefer container electrical requirements, the dual-refrigeration rule for Type B self-reactives, and the response on reaching the emergency temperature. Class-level detail is in IMDG Class 4 .
